Parent of a drug addict

Sometimes I think, what in the heck I am thinking putting my life out here for everyone to see, but I believe that is what the Lord is leading me to do. My intentions are always to encourage others, to let them know they are not the only ones struggling with some of my same issues.

When my son was sixteen I came together with a group of parents who were struggling with their teenagers as well. I became accustomed to being transparent. It was a safe place to share the good, bad and the ugly. And there was lots of ugly. Not just anybody understands your kid’s issues. It’s not easy to ask others to pray for your son’s upcoming court hearing. Or pray he will get arrested and be court ordered into rehab. It is very humbling and in the long run I understand being humbled is not a bad thing.

I came up with the idea that Adam and Eve had the perfect parent and they made a really bad decision, so there. Having a troubled child doesn’t necessarily mean you are a bad parent!
